Whether you’re getting married soon or just tied the knot, have you thought about how your finances and your taxes will change? I had heard about the “marriage penalty” but didn’t really understand what it was all about. Luckily for me, I’m surrounded by financial planners all day and my father-in-law is an accountant so I was able to prepare pretty thoroughly and my wife and I weren’t met with any financial surprises.
Using this joyous time to get in some financial education with your spouse is a great idea. Like going to the doctor or dentist, you’ll save yourself a lot of pain by being proactive about it rather than reactive.
